Answering All Your Portable Toilet Questions

Renting portable toilets provides your guests or crew with a safe, sanitary, and convenient place to use the restroom. With portable toilets, you can provide restroom facilities at any location, whether it’s a construction site, special event, or an outdoor wedding. But if you’ve never rented portable toilets before, you probably have a lot of questions. Here are several points that you’ll want to discuss with the provider.

What Types of Portable Toilets Are Available?

Porta potties are not all the same! At Rent-A-Can Site Services, we provide everything from standard toilets with hand sanitizer to luxury restroom trailers with sinks, depending on your needs.

  • Standard Portable Toilets: You commonly see these units at festivals, concerts, or other outdoor events. They have a toilet with a holding tank and a separate urinal inside.
  • ADA-Compliant Portable Toilets: These are a larger version of a standard portable toilet, with enough room inside for a wheelchair to maneuver easily. Handrails on the inside walls improve safety and accessibility.
  • Luxury Restroom Trailer: Our restroom trailers come in various sizes, including a 2-unit basic trailer, 2- or 4-unit deluxe trailer, or 3-unit trailer with a shower. They all come equipped with toilets, a standard urinal, and sinks. The deluxe models also have air conditioning and heating for greater comfort.

How Many Units Should I Rent?

This is also one of the standard toilet provider questions. How many units you should rent depends on the length of time you need them and the number of people you need to accommodate. If you are operating a construction site, the general rule of thumb is one portable toilet for every ten full-time employees or 400 man-hours.

Hosting an event is somewhat different, especially if you’re serving food and drinks. If you are planning a four-hour event and expect 50 people to attend, one or two portable toilets may suffice. But if you’re hosting a weekend festival and expect at least 500 people to attend, you’ll need a lot more. When you talk to your portable toilet provider, they can help you determine how many units you will need.

How Often Will the Units Be Cleaned and Maintained?

This is one of the more common questions we get about long-term portable toilet rentals. Here at Rent-A-Can, we will work out a maintenance schedule that suits your needs. Most of our clients opt for weekly maintenance. Once a week, our technicians visit the location, pump out the tanks, and thoroughly clean and sanitize each unit. Higher use locations may require two or three times per week service. We don’t recommend less than every other week service.

Do You Do Same Day Deliveries?

We do offer same day delivery for portable toilet rentals to some areas for an additional fee.  Most locations require 24-hour notice to avoid emergency fees. We will deliver and set up the units for you, so you don’t have to worry about doing it yourself. If you notice any cracks, leaks, or other problems during the length of your rental, please contact us right away so we can retrieve the defective unit and bring a replacement.
